WAGRO Syndrome

1. Causes of the disease

WAGRO syndrome is a genetic disorder that combines the features of WAGR syndrome with obesity. It is caused by a genetic deletion at 11p13, but also has the risk of developing obesity, which poses additional health risks.

2. Symptoms

• Wilms’ tumor (kidney tumor) : A tumor of the kidney may develop.
• Aniridia : Vision impairment caused by absence of the iris.
• Reproductive abnormalities : Reproductive organs may develop abnormally.
• Intellectual disability and developmental delays : There may be delays in language and motor skills.
• Obesity : Early weight gain and obesity are seen.

3. Treatment

• Treatment of kidney tumors : If tumors develop, surgery and chemotherapy are performed.
• Vision management : Visual assistance or surgery may be required.
• Obesity Management : Weight management is carried out through nutrition and exercise therapy.
• Developmental Support : Support is provided through therapeutic education, speech and physical therapy.

4. Prognosis

With proper medical management, kidney tumors, obesity and visual impairment can be addressed, and early support can help improve quality of life.
