ポリメラーゼ連鎖反応（PCR: Polymerase Chain Reaction）は、特定のDNA配列を短時間で数百万倍に増幅する技術です。この方法では、DNAポリメラーゼ酵素を使って、少量のDNAサンプルから多量のDNAを生成します。DNAポリメラーゼ酵素は、DNAの複製を行うための重要な酵素です。この酵素は、二本鎖のDNAを一時的に分離し、各鎖に新しいヌクレオチドを付け加えて、新しいDNA鎖を合成します。PCR（ポリメラーゼ連鎖反応）で使用されるDNAポリメラーゼは、特に熱安定性が高いものが選ばれ、サーマルサイクラーによる温度変化に耐えながらDNAの増幅を行います。代表的な例がTaqポリメラーゼで、これは高温でも機能するため、PCRに適しています。PCRは、医学、法医学、遺伝学研究などで広く使用されており、遺伝子診断やウイルス検出（例：COVID-19検査）にも重要な役割を果たしています。

- 伸長: ポリメラーゼ酵素が新しいDNA鎖を合成します。
このサイクルを繰り返すことで、DNAが指数関数的に増幅されます。
