About carbon dioxide laser
A carbon dioxide laser reacts with moisture and is converted into heat energy, and the heat scrapes the tissue. It is used in the field of dermatology and plastic surgery to remove moles and warts because it can scrape off lesions very finely and pinpoint and is less likely to cause bleeding. Our carbon dioxide laser has three modes, and the depth of laser irradiation can be changed in various ways.
Seborrheic keratosis, Nikko Kuroko, etc., which tend to occur in sun-exposed areas, can be removed cleanly by irradiating with a shallow mode to remove only the tumor body.
On the other hand, in lesions such as “mole”, pigment cells are present in the deep part of the skin, so they will relapse unless the laser beam is applied deeply. At our hospital, we use a device called a dermoscope to diagnose what kind of lesion is in advance and determine the mode and output of the carbon dioxide laser.
In addition, the laser can shine a laser beam with a spot size as large as 0.1 mm, so it can handle minute lesions. In particular, miliium around the eyes is small in size and is suitable for carbon dioxide laser. Since the carbon dioxide laser can accurately irradiate a small area with laser light, it can be treated without damaging the surrounding normal skin.
Features of carbon dioxide laser
Only the raised body such as raised spots (seborrheic keratosis) and warts on the neck (acrocordon) can be removed and removed cleanly. The border with normal skin is slightly smaller. Since it does not damage unnecessary parts, it has the advantage that it causes minimal damage to the skin and is easy to heal quickly and cleanly without leaving any marks.
On the other hand, in lesions such as “mole”, pigment cells are present in the deep part of the skin, so it is necessary to scrape the lesion deeply under local anesthesia. Laser treatment is preferred over excision because small moles are less likely to leave dent marks and scars after treatment are less noticeable. It is also very useful when treating lesions such as those that are difficult to remove, such as eyelids, as it can remove the wound to a minimum.

Treat with tape
Be careful not to forcibly remove the tape and make it last as long as possible. Please follow the doctor’s instructions when applying medicines. The tape is finished when it is covered with new skin and there is no pain. After that, in order to prevent pigmentation and heal quickly and cleanly, avoid irritation such as rubbing the treated area and perform strict UV care. If necessary, we recommend the use of melanin inhibitors such as hydroquinone to improve pigmentation.
Effect of carbon dioxide laser treatment
Only the parts that are not needed can be scraped off. A carbon dioxide laser is especially useful for small-sized milium around the eyes. Since the carbon dioxide laser can accurately irradiate a small area with laser light, it can be treated without unnecessarily damaging the surrounding normal skin.
